Ton Duc Thang University Delegation Visits Universities in Shanghai, China

On October 14 and 15, 2025, a delegation from Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), led by Dr. Tran Trong Dao – President of TDTU, visited and worked with Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China.

The visit was part of TDTU’s international cooperation expansion program, aiming to strengthen academic exchange, promote faculty and student mobility, and foster joint research with leading universities in the region.

1. Working Session at Shanghai Normal University

On the afternoon of October 14, 2025, the TDTU delegation visited and held a working session with Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) — one of China’s most prestigious and long-established institutions in the field of education.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Jiang Mingjun, Vice President of SHNU, with the participation of representatives from various university departments.

During the session, the two sides discussed potential cooperation in training, research, and academic exchange, and agreed to implement several key collaborative programs, including:

• Joint Bachelor’s program in Chinese Language under the 2+2 model;

• Student exchange and cultural immersion programs, enabling TDTU students to study, intern, and gain experience in Shanghai;

• Faculty exchange, co-teaching, and bilingual curriculum development, with shared expertise in curriculum design and quality assurance;

• Research collaboration in the fields of Linguistics, Education, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Business, among others.

Founded in 1954, Shanghai Normal University is a key university in Shanghai, renowned for its strengths in teacher education, linguistics, arts, and social sciences.

2. Visit and Working Session at Shanghai Jiao Tong University

On the morning of October 15, 2025, the delegation continued its working program with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) — one of China’s top universities and a member of the C9 League, the alliance of the country’s leading elite universities.

The TDTU delegation was warmly received by Prof. Liu Weidong, Vice President of SJTU, along with leaders from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the School of Social Sciences, the Office of International Cooperation, and Mr. Zhang Jize, Vietnam Regional Manager of COMA Aircraft Manufacturing Group.

During the working session, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on opportunities for collaboration in training, research, and academic exchange. Both parties agreed to sign a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a framework for future joint initiatives, which include:

• Student exchange and cultural immersion programs, enabling students from both universities to participate in short-term study, summer courses, and cultural exchange activities;

• Faculty exchange and visiting professorship programs in fields such as Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Transportation, and Aeronautics;

• Joint research collaboration in areas including Smart Transportation Technology, Traffic Engineering, and Electrical Engineering;

• Co-supervision of Sandwich PhD programs, participation in the TDTU Visiting Professorship Network, and engagement in international research projects;

• Co-organization of international academic conferences in the fields of Science and Technology and Chinese Language Studies.

The working trip to Shanghai was a great success, opening up numerous promising opportunities for collaboration between Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) and leading universities in China. The outcomes of the visit not only contribute to advancing the internationalization of TDTU’s education and research activities but also reaffirm the university’s position within the network of research-oriented universities in Asia.

During the trip, the delegation also took the opportunity to visit and meet TDTU students who are currently participating in exchange programs in Shanghai.
